ISRO
India's national space agency, under the Department of Space. Recruits scientists, engineers, technicians and administrative staff across its centres (VSSC, URSC, LPSC, SAC, ISTRAC, SDSC SHAR and more) mainly through the ICRB — a written test and interview, or a GATE score for many engineering posts.

How to Get In
The two main doors into India's space sector
Straight From School
IIST (Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram) is the Department of Space's own institute. Undergraduate admission is purely on JEE (Advanced) merit, followed by online counselling — no separate entrance exam. Graduates aren't bonded to ISRO, but qualifying students are considered for Scientist/Engineer recruitment if vacancies exist, alongside normal campus placements.
After a Degree
Engineers and postgraduates can apply directly to ISRO's ICRB for Scientist/Engineer posts — many disciplines screen on GATE score, followed by an interview. Technical and administrative posts (Assistant, Technician, Stenographer and similar) are recruited through their own separate ICRB written tests.
